I have formed a stronger bond to my heritage by the act of painting it. In my still life paintings I depict nostalgic subjects that reflect both my Mexican and Honduran heritage, and my experiences living in a Texas-border town. Mexico and Honduras are both rich in culture, and I celebrate them with the use of bright colors, and iconography. Lately, my figurative work has focused on the immigrant vendors of New York City. It is such a comfort to know that I can get a taste of home out on the streets of New York. My work inhabits a painted culture to be shared, examined and enjoyed.
